Independence of the Seas & CoCo Cay

Ah, to be on a cruise ship again! For those who know me, you know I love my cruise ships. We were fortunate enough to take this cruise through a cruise class at Cornell, which meant it was freeeeee! But to that point, it was mostly about education. Mostly.

The Ship:

She is definitely on the older side, and its pretty evident, but the Independence can still hold its own. There is plenty to do, from the classic flow rider (I got up this time, granted for all of 10 seconds), water slides, promenade, and more. I think it has another 10 years, MAX, of being relevant before it slips away into irrelevancy, especially at a lower price point than its newer counterparts.

With all that said, would I recommend going on this ship? Definitely not if its your first cruise. There are so many more newer and better ships out there and you’d definitely come out of the experience a little put off by the tackiness of this ship. But again, Independence does quick, cheap routes, and for that, it does the job.

The Island:

CocoCay is the shit. It’s called Perfect Day at CocoCay, and rightfully so! They have thought about everything here at this Royal Caribbean private island, from those who want raunchy parties and swim up bars, to those who want a chill overwater bungalow, and beyond. The waterpark is absolutely wild and super fun!
