Weekend in the Keys

Driving from Miami to Key West has always been on my bucket list. The bridges and ocean and views all just looked incredible, and I can now report that it is, in fact, pretty awesome. Key West itself is an interesting vibe. Anyway, here’s what our weekend was like:

Stops En Route:

Get some key lime pie from Keys Chocolates and Ice Cream. This is kind of a necessity, key lime pie from the keys. But there is also so much other goodies here you shouldn’t miss out on (like the taco truck in the parking lot, that shit slapped).

Bahia Honda State Park for a nice beach and great views of the bridges.

Sunset Grille and Raw Bar - we didn’t need up stopping here but it was on my list. The views and food look great here.

Key West:

Fort Zachary Taylor Park

This spot is considered one of the better beaches within the city, plus it has a fort on the site, so its kind of a kill two birds with one stone situation. The beach isn’t the most beautiful, but you CAN snorkel, get some beach chairs, and enjoy the sun for a few hours out here. There is a snack stand and drinks you can buy as well.

Southernmost Point

It’s kind of a check it off the list type place. Is it worth waiting in line? No. Just go there, take a pic from off to the side, walk to the end point, and call it a day. Plus, I think technically, its not actually the furthest south point. Semantics.

Bagatelle

Brunch at Bagatelle is probably your best bet to cure your hangover from the night before. Perched above Duval street with cute design and lovely service (maybe too lovely given our hangover), they had a great eggs Benedict and did the job.

Sunset Pier

A dinner at Sunset Pier is a must. This place has fantastic food, drinks served in coconuts, and amazing views for sunset. Plus, there was live music and great service. Nothing to complain about.

Duval Street

This is THE spot to go, and frankly, everywhere was just as fun as the last. Its more of a country, Flo Rida, type range of music, nothing remotely avant grade, but just embrace the humor of it all, have some drinks, and have a good time! We hopped from Tiki House to Captain Tony’s Saloon to Ricks to Tikka Bar to…you get the point.

Overall, Key West is a super interesting little town. Its a combination of the Bahamas, Charleston and Nashville. Did I love it? Not particularly. Just not quite my vibe. But, if someone were to ask if they should go, I would say yes.
