Ocean Key Resort

Key West is surprisingly kind of expensive given the more middle class nature of the people visiting. We ended up dropping around $400 on one of the more popular spots, Ocean Key Resort. Here are the thoughts:

Location: A

On the water, next to Mallory Square, and at the start of Duval Street. That’s like literally all you could possibly ask for in a Key West hotel.

Rooms: B+

They’re cute, I guess. Kind of an outdated version of Southern chic meets the Virgin Islands. We were upgraded to a junior suite which had a nice view, and the added space was definitely a nice perk. At the end of the day, not much to write home about.

Dining: B+

Actually pretty decent options here. Burger and ceviche by the pool was great, dinner at Sunset Pier was absolutely fantastic, and there’s another restaurant on site as well that we never ended up checking out but looked nice. So all solid!

Amenities: B-

There’s a pool, gym and spa but the pool isn’t the biggest or fanciest, the gym is tiny, and the spa is shockingly expensive. But they’re all there and that’s a solid perk.

Scene

It encapsulated the sort of higher end of the type of person visiting Key West. Everyone was very friendly, just happy to be on vacation and by the ocean. Overall a lovely vibe, with that southern charm and Caribbean hospitality.

Service: A-

A nice welcome drink on arrival was a great way to start the drink after a long drive, and that kind of service was experienced throughout the stay. Occasionally somewhat slow and inefficient, but its island time anyway!
