Westin Dublin
Given the state of my stomach by this point, the Westin is what I saw most in Dublin. And honestly, I wasn’t mad about it.
Location: A
This place is smack in the middle of the city, but just far enough from the crazy night scene. Dublin is small in general, but the location of the Westin truly maximizes the ease of travel around the city. Basically everything you want to see is within a 10-minute walk. It is across the street from Trinity College, a block from the river, 3 blocks from Temple Bar and a 10-minute walk from St. Stephens Park. Easy A here.
Rooms: A
We booked the Westin through American Express, and as a result we were upgraded BIG time. We got lucky and had ourselves a two-level suite that was absolutely beautiful, with one of the most comfortable beds I’ve ever slept on. We were specifically in the George Bernard Shaw Suite, and it was just fantastic on all accounts.
Dining: B+
Food in Dublin was pretty eh overall, but the drinks made up for it. That was the same at the hotel. The Mint Bar in the basement served fantastic drinks (I got an Old Fashioned) and a solid burger that did the job, because you really have to try to mess up a burger. It used to be a bank vault which makes for an interesting architectural setting as well.
Amenities: B
There’s a gym, nice lounge areas, and a few restaurants. But at the end of the day, you’re staying here for the location, location location.
Scene: Old
Which is somewhat to be expected but old in this case didn’t mean stuffy. It’s a classy hotel, and so are its guests.
