Qatar q-suite

The beginning of a new adventure in my life - living in Bangkok. And how else to start it off than in some serious style, on board the best business class in the skies, Qatar’s QSuite. Here’s my review of the seat.

16 hours from LAX-DOH on an A350-1000 was the first leg of my journey (second leg was on an A350-900, so basically the same thing). Unfortunately, due to COVID, the lounge at LAX was closed so no review on that. But walking through an entirely empty Tom Bradley terminal was one of the spookier things I have ever done. Anyway, the review.

The seat: A+

These seats are absolutely beautiful. A staggered 1-2-1 layout means all seats get direct aisle access, but get this: Qatar has staggered the seats so that every other row of middle 2 seats can be paired together and transformed into a full on double sized bed. So yes, you can cuddle with your partner on a flight. Combine that with doors that close and you’ve got yourself an ideal situation for a long flight. But alas, I was flying alone, so I chose a window seat. Normally, I would go for a seat that is right next to the window, further from the aisle, for privacy reasons. But, the fact that there is a door and a small little seat next to your actual sit next to the window made choosing an even numbered seat the more tantalizing opinion for me. Storage is always an important part of a seat for me, and this seat has plenty. On top of a nice, large table on the side (to go along with your dining table) there is a slot for your smaller belongings, and that little seat next to your main seat can be opened to place larger things (charger case, water bottles, headphones, etc.). There is also a perfectly sized space for your shoes off to the side as well. I’m telling you, the layout of this seat is actually perfect.

On my shorter flight from Doha to Bangkok, I chose an odd-numbered seat, just to see what it was like. I thought it was solid, and I enjoyed sitting by the window, but it was less unique in my opinion than the even numbered seats. If there was no sliding door, I would want to be by the window, but the door and that secondary seat makes you feel like you’ve got a whole room in the sky to yourself.

The food: A

Cool thing about Qatar’s food service is that you can get it any time you want rather than following their on meal time. So I definitely appreciated that. And, to go along with their main options, Qatar offers great snacks to have, which is ideal on a 16 hour flight (the sliders I had as my ‘midnight snack’ were actually so so soooo good). Personally, I’m someone who thinks people grading in-flight meals in business class are a bit too much. It’s food served 40,000 feet in the sky for crying out loud! And even the ‘sub-par’ meals I’ve had in business class are pretty darn good. I will say this though - Qatar’s food tasted better than Emirates’. So take that and do with it what you want.

The service: A+

Again, service is usually an A in business class, especially when a flight is not nearly as full as normal due to COVID. But, I LOVED the pajamas they provide on the flight, and still wear them to this day. So extra points there. But just in general, they were very quick and professional with everything throughout the flight.

Entertainment: A-

I feel like COVID really screwed up the whole movie industry, and I just personally have been less invested in seeing movies. So I really wasn’t into most of the options on these flights. The TV though was huge and super clear. Also, they have different cameras around the plane so watching our landing on those was definitely very entertaining for me.

Al Mourjan Lounge: B+

So this lounge is super nice. Don’t get me wrong. It’s massive. And my issue with it was that it was actually TOO big, to the point I almost didn’t feel like I was in a special area. It felt like I was just in a normal, super nice, airport terminal. But that point aside, the food, showers and drinks were all great, and my layover actually went by far too quickly.

A photogenic entrance, to say the least
