Koh Chang PArt II

When I visited Koh Chang back in April, we didn’t venture much out of the hotel property. We saw a lot, but certainly not all of Koh Chang, so here’s some more things to do on Thailand’s second largest island.

Where to find your own private waterfall: Kai Bae Falls

This may be one of the more idyllic waterfalls I have been to. It’s not the highest, not the most powerful, not the most photogenic per se, but something about the privacy, seclusion and slight inaccessibility made it a gem. To get there, you must ride your bike (renting one is a must) down a very bumpy dirt road, where you’ll end up at a small cardboard sign reading “Waterfall 20 baht”. A Thai woman is sitting there and once you pay her, you can park the bike and begin the approximately 20 minute hike to the falls. The trail is not necessarily easy, but definitely doable for most people. Some rope climbing, stream crossing and narrow portions, but we had no issues ourselves. And it was all worth it once we got to this perfect emerald pool with a 20 meter high waterfall, all there for no one but ourselves. The water temperature is perfect after a nice hike in the Thai heat, and the scale of it all is perfect. Definitely a must visit on Koh Chang.

Where to chill on a beach with good music and an açaí bowl: Indie Beach

Down on the south side of the island, Indie Beach is a wonderful spot to spend an afternoon. There’s wonderful music, a great, healthy selection of food, fun service/vibes, and a cute little beach with kayaks for rent as well. It’s also a hotel, so if you want more of the Indie vibe, you’re able to stay overnight as well.

Where to have lunch in a tree: Oasis Cafe

Okay, so I admit, it was closed when we visited. But the photos look dope, they just opened a pool, and the food is super healthy. So like, check it out.

Where to escape impromptu torrential downpours: The View Cafe

We got lucky on this one - as we were driving back to the hotel, it began to start raining hard and we had to quickly pull over in a parking lot and run into this cafe on the side of the road. To our delight, we were treated with incredible views and a shockingly good latte.

Where to get a damn gyro: El Greco

Sometimes, you just want a damn gyro. And this Greek spot really satisfied that craving. Sure, its random, but it was a solid meal.
