The Collective Paper Factory

Looking for a hip/trendy/CHEAP hotel? Look no further than the Collective Paper Factory! Here are my thoughts

Location: B-

Out across the river in Brooklyn, so you’re a bit of a ways away from the sites of NYC (but right in the middle of some cooler, off the beaten path places in the city). With that said, the hotel is only a few minute walk from the L Train, which throws you right in the middle of Manhattan, so that’s certainly helpful.

Room

Look, its a cheap hotel. But the way they’ve renovated this old paper factory is actually pretty cool, and I appreciated all the little quirky design elements that are found in the rooms. The bed isn’t the comfiest, the views suck, and the bathroom is pretty barebones, but hey, it does the job for like $150 a night or whatever I spent.

Service: B

Again, its a cheap hotel! Don’t expect much. Plus, it’s New York. Not the friendliest. But again, at the end of the day, the staff here gets the job done.

Dining: ?

I actually don’t remember if there was even a dining option here. I know there are plenty of tables and spaces to eat, and a bar, but yeah, I did not eat here and not sure if that was even an option. There are definitely a lot of really cool spots to eat at nearby though!

Amenities: B+

There is a LOT of co working spaces, meeting spaces, hangout areas, fun zones, etc. at this hotel. They have quite a large area to work with, so they definitely made the most out of it! Obviously, you won’t find any spas or state of the art gyms, but they definitely fill out all their spaces.

Scene

Its a bunch of young, cool, hipster people avoiding Manhattan and its hoards of tourists and overpriced hotels. I loved the clientele here, it honestly showed me a new realm of New Yorkers, both those who are coming to visit for much more causal reasons, and people who lived in the vicinity that operate on a vastly different set of standards as their New York counterparts just across the river.

Overall, this hotel does its job, and then some. If you don’t mind being further from Manhattan (but closer to JFK and LGA, plus Brooklyn and Williamsburg), then The Paper Factory is a great option for you.
