The Pendry Manhattan West
One of the newer properties on the vast scene of New York hotels, The Pendry is a breath of fresh air in modern luxury. Here’s what I thought from our quick 2 night visit.
Location: B-
Look - its not ideal. Its in the Hudson Yard development, which has its own perks, but is a bit separated from the action of Manhattan. Granted, the high line is about a 5 minute walk away, and from there you can take a pleasant stroll down to Chelsea. Additionally, its about a 5 minute walk to Madison Square. So while its by no means far from anything, its not really an ideal spot in the grand scheme of Manhattan hotels.
Rooms: A+
They’re modern and spacious and filled with natural light. For New York rooms, these feel like they are in a league of their own. We were lucky enough to get upgraded to a 2-bedroom suite, which was stunning, complete with a massive bathroom, full dining table, comfortable living area, and beautiful touches that make you feel at home. Overall, some of the best hotel rooms in New York City.
Service: B+
We were told we would get picked up from LaGuardia when we landed, but alas, when we called, they said they forgot. So that was a bummer. But from that point on, service was on point. The Pendry brand is built on a non-stuffy version of luxury, and a more casual approach to service without compromising the experience. This style of service was evident during our stay and I appreciated the subdued albeit abundantly professional nature of the service here.
Amenities: A-
No spa, but the gym was more than enough here, and super modern as well. At the end of the day though, you’re not really coming to NYC for the amenities of a hotel, so give me a gym and that’s more than enough.
Dining: A
There are several outlets here, all of which are simply beautiful in terms of their design - and not to mention their food and drink. There is no going wrong with any of the restaurants and bars on site (there are 3 restaurants and 3 bars to choose from), so if you want to stay in for a night, you’ll be more than fine.
Scene
This is where Pendry as a brand excels in my opinion. As I said earlier, their whole thing is to provide a more subdued and less stuffy version of high luxury, and that translates to a much less pretentious and more relaxed clientele at their hotels. I’ve stayed at the Pendry San Diego and eaten at the Pendry in Los Angeles, both of which have the same overall vibe as the Pendry Manhattan, one I certainly appreciate.
Overall, I love this hotel and the brand, and I would certainly stay here again. While the price point is up there, the quality of the design and relaxed version of luxury provided makes the Pendry Manhattan very much so worth it.
