ModernHaus Soho
Mixed review here. Let’s get into it.
Location: A-
Its walking distance to the beautiful SoHo area, and easily accessible from the Holland Tunnel if you are coming from the west or Newark Airport. This is really why we picked this hotel for the weekend because we could basically walk anywhere. And there are a couple subway stations nearby as well.
Dining: B+
We had breakfast here which tasted great but was very overpriced. As were the drinks at one of the bars on site. But with that said, there are a lot of options in this hotel, which comes with some of the most outdoor area of any hotel in the city.
Rooms: B+
As is standard for most New York hotels, its quite small, but well laid out. There are some confusing design aspects that we eventually figured out, but overall, the room does the job.
Amenities: B
The gym is great with amazing views to the east and south. There is plenty of dining and drinking options. And there’s a rooftop pool, which in theory, sounded great, but was unusable thanks to everyone reserving the 10 total lounge chairs offered. The pool was one of the main reasons we booked this hotel, and to not have been able to use it once (and we checked every day) was fuc*king ridiculous.
Service: C-
Just flat out bad on all fronts. Pool lady on her phone the whole time. Check in guy not even really saying hi when we arrived. Not getting ANY of the AMEX perks when booking through platinum card. Poorly cleaned rooms with trash still left all over. Just bad bad bad.
Scene
If you “reserve” your lounge chair by leaving some clothes on the chair, we have issues. You are the worst of society. So given that those people were a part of the hotel scene here, not ideal. It was mostly couple staying overall, couple families as well.
