Thalassa Boutique
A brand new hotel that deserves serious recognition, Thalassa Boitique is the best option on the entire island. Quote me on that. Here’s why.
Location: A+
I simply cannot stress enough how prime this spot was on the island. You're a fifteen minute walk from SantAnna and Scorpios, twenty minutes from Nammos, a five minute ATV ride from the city center, ten minutes drive from the airport, and right on the beach. That last point is important because a lot of Mykonos hotels simply have access to the beach with a private area reserved for their guests. Thalassa is on the fine sand (not rocks), and that was important to us, so don’t be fooled by other "beach" hotels. Platis Gialos is a happy medium in terms of class and rowdiness, so you'll see a combination of mothers and children along with old men and fake boobs.
Rooms: A
Stand alone tub!! Beach front pool!! Ocean views!! For the price, which was similar to that of normal rooms of most other high end hotels on the island, this room is an absolute steal. Located in a separate wing than the other rooms, by the beachfront restaurant, the suite was truly luxurious, and the plunge pool was absolutely breathtaking-even though the water was freezing cold. Other than that, the bed was as comfortable as it gets (although I did break my toe on the wooden base of the bed so there's that), the shower was prime and storage was plentiful.
Food: A but also B
The sushi was decadent and hard to beat due not only to its taste but the dining views were unbeatable. The breakfast service, without fail, managed to get my girlfriend's order wrong every morning. The overly complex all you can order menu may have contributed to the mishaps. By the third morning breakfast ended in a near meltdown, almost as runny as her underboiled eggs. Call her a princess, but hey I get it. My breakfast was solid every morning so personally, no complaints.
Service: B+
Despite the breakfast service, the staff was kind, welcoming and personal. Thalassa maintains a small intimate feel of a boutique hotel but on a grand luxurious scale. We arrived on my girlfriend's birthday, and they really went above and beyond, welcoming her with a special birthday card at the airport, providing champagne and delicious cake, along with complimentary wine (which was not very good unfortunately-Greek wine in general man, just avoid it). The guys on the beach are great as well, very charismatic and bubbly (pro-tip: if you catch fish while snorkeling or fishing off the pier, the chef will cook it for you for free. I wouldn't know how it tastes though because I failed after thirty minutes of trying to catch fish with my bare hands).
Amenities: B+
For a boutique hotel, there is actually a good amount of amenities at Thalassa. A small spa with sauna and steam room, beautiful infinity edge plunge pool overlooking the beach, a library/reading area complete with hammocks, tiny gym, great restaurant, and of course the beautiful beach. So basically, you won't be bored.
