Cape Nidhra Hua Hin
Considered to be one of the best hotels in Hua Hin, the Cape Nidhra is a place I had on my radar for some time. When I saw they had a Workation package for half the price (which is already cheaper because of COVID), I jumped at the opportunity. Here is what I thought of my stay.
Location: A
This is where the Cape Nidhra excels in my opinion. Set right on a nicer stretch of beach and within a 10 minute walk from the sights and sounds of Hua Hin, it’s tough to beat this spot. Just far enough to be exclusive and peaceful but definitely close enough to walk anywhere.
Rooms: B+
This is honestly a tough grade. The rooms are modern and sleek with beautiful mood lighting and ALL rooms come with a private plunge pool. Also, there are plenty of outlets, which is a huge plus for me. But when it comes to a view, none of the rooms at the hotel have an ocean view - that’s right, none. Unless you splurge for the one biggest suite on the property I believe. So that’s a bit of a bummer. The TV is too small and too low, the sliding doors and curtains live a spectacularly unharmonious relationship that make it frustrating to walk in and out of the room, and there is no door for the toilet - I get it, you want romance and sexy design, but give me my privacy when I shit please, thank you. The shower and bathtub though are easily one of the best I have ever used. The tub was huge and definitely big enough for two, and the shower head was like a full 3 meters (10 feet) high which was awesome. Overall, this is a great room, but just a few little things I had subtle qualms with. Also, try to request building 3, 4 or 5. 1 and 2 are close to the street side and further from the beach.
Food: A-
Unfortunately we were limited to room service but our breakfast in the room was incredible every morning. Plus, I had some Khao Soi one night which was perfect (Khao Soi is the best Thai dish, and don’t let anyone tell you any different). We also had some cocktails by the pool one afternoon, which were great and quite unique - even my girlfriend enjoyed it which is RARE.
Amenities: N/A
Tough to give this a proper grade since we were not allowed to use anything other than our room. I will say though that it seems like there are plenty of amenities at the Cape Nidhra, from spas and gyms to pools and various restaurants. So next time I go, I’ll let you know how they all are.
Service: B
Overall, the service is very attentive but nothing over the top. Ordering room service for the daily breakfast was a struggle each time, so that became frustrating. The staff were all very sweet but at the same time something about the vibe felt cold here. Maybe thats a product of COVID and the weird times or the fact that I was bandaged up all over thanks to falling off a motorbike. In any case, the service was good, not great.
Vibe
This is one of the pricier hotels in the region, so you will find lots of high-class Thai families and couples to go along with a surprising amount of influencers snapping pictures all around the very aesthetic property. Walking up and down the beach here is great as well because both directions are more vibrant but the beach directly in front is calm and peaceful, giving the Cape NIdhra a more private feel. Would I stay here again? Yes. Is it better than the Devasom? No, save for its ideal location.
