Rosewood phuket
Dad visiting Thailand. This was big. All the hotel options I’ve considered but neglected due to price were now on the table. So what did I go with for our first stop? The Rosewood Phuket. Here’s what I thought.
Location: A-
It’s down by Patong Beach, about 10 minute drive from the insane hustle and bustle of Bangla Road. But even though it is close, the Rosewood feels like a world away. The hotel’s Art Deco architecture is engulfed by greenery, furthering the feeling of an escape from the chaos that Thailand can often present. The beach itself is not quite the best, but certainly good enough. The water is a beautiful blue, and while there is not great snorkeling directly off the beach, there are options nearby which suffice.
Rooms: A
We got a 2 bedroom partial ocean view villa (which really was a full ocean view) and it felt as though we hadn’t left home. There are subtle touches that remind you that you are in fact in Thailand, but at the same time everything feels very modern and contemporary. The bathrooms were stunning, with indoor and outdoor showers, a standalone tub, and massive closets. And the private plunge pool was just large enough to do a lap or two which was perfect while we waited for our negative result before exploring the island.
Amenities: A-
I loved the pool area. There’s a variety of types of pools to chose from and you can wade through ankle deep water between them all. The gym had all the amenities, but I was bummed that it had no view of any sort. There is a nice little water sport center which I got a pedal-standup-bike-thing. For kids, there’s a great playground and kid’s club, so if you’re traveling with little ones I would definitely recommend this place.
Dining: A-
We only gad breakfast while here, but it was damn good. They had a small buffet of pastries and little snacks, and then a wonderful selection of a la cart options. But the menu was no ordinary menu, this breakfast menu was like finely curated, all of which were very healthy and a great way to start our day.
Service: A
We had a butler the whole time who took care of everything for us, and was very responsive. Every time I walked up to the pool, there was a man with a towel and water, ready to take my order - and he would come around every 30 minutes or so with a small free snack or tea or something. Everyone here was on there game, so we were very happy with the service at the Rosewood.
Scene
The scene here was surprisingly young, with lots of families to go along with a good amount of couples. As fancy as the hotel was, the scene was quite unpretentious which I always appreciate.
All in all, I wanted to take my dad to a hotel that had a great location, solid beach, and a room that would make us feel at home. The Rosewood hit on all those points. The beach of the Amanpuri is probably slightly better. The location of a hotel right on Patong or Kamala Beach may be slightly busier, rooms at the Trisara might be a bit larger, but the Rosewood Phuket had a little bit of all three which made it an ideal hotel for us.
