Sukantara

A hotel build right on the edge of a flowing river with multiple waterfalls? Yeah, sign me up. Here’s what I thought of the Sukantara:

Location: A+

Look, its on a waterfall. It really doesn’t get much better than that. Plus, its only about 30-45 minutes from Chiang Mai, so there’s easy enough access to the city.

Rooms: B+

They’re actually quite nice and large, with a beautiful view of course. A little outdated, and actually slightly overpriced for Thailand standards, but definitely a nice space.

Service: B

All very friendly, just somewhat slow with everything. Not that it totally matters, but yeah, just some wildly inefficient moments. Plus, the hotel is not very well maintained, but that could also be a result of the pandemic.

Food: B+

Northern Thai food is the best in my opinion, so I have high standards for it. The food here was solid, for sure, but not quite what I would have wanted in a nice hotel in the north.

Amenities: B-

There’s a beautiful pool with views of the waterfall, but its not well maintained and quite cold. Not much else at the hotel but at the end of the day, you’re here to explore nature. There are hiking trails around the hotel as well which are great.

Scene: Not much to report here. It was me, and me only for my one night at the Sukantara. There are a bunch of peacocks roaming around though. So I guess you could say the scene was pretty freaking awesome.
