Barcelona: Drink
Spaniards love to have a good time. Bars a aplenty in Barcelona, but a few stand out from the rest. Here’s where I went that I absolutely loved.
Bar Sauvage
Located on the always-busy Passeig del Born, this place was probably my favorite in Barcelona. Bartenders and waiters are super cool, even when I would go with large, chaotic groups. The downstairs area becomes quite the party as the night goes on, and there are multiple bars meaning you’re never too far from your next drink. And, if you’re on track to get lucky with a girl from the bar, I recommend you order a Dark and Horny-tastes fantastic, strong enough, and comes with some potentially crucial “assistance”.
Crepe Bar
Located right across the street, this became a solid plan B for when Bar Sauvage was too crowded or we wanted a change in pace. Great drinks and a fun vibe-what more do you really need?
Espit Chupitos
Call it a tourist trap, but its one of those places you kind of have to go. There are a few around the city, so find the one closest to you and head there to take your pick of one of over 600 drink options. Fire, smoke, and penises are all a part of the show Chupitos puts on. Yeah, I wrote penises. Just order the Monica Lowinski, if you dare.
The George Payne
Not only can you get the best buffalo wings here, but you can also find the most direct path to blacking out. Order the aptly named “Blackout Platter”, and you’ll get a pitcher of Vodka Redbull, Sangria, as well as a screwdriver, tequila shot and sambuca. All for $20. Yup. See ya tomorrow. But not before you embarrass yourself at the Thursday karaoke.
Bobby Gin
An upscale gin-based bar in the Gracia area, Bobby Gin is the embodiment of Barcelona’s most popular drink-the gin and Tonic. I promise that you never knew how many types of Gin and Tonic were possible. And while it is a bit more on the expensive side, the atmosphere remains more casual with a younger-than-you’d-expect clientele.
Ale & Hop
If you’re a fan of hole in the walls and beer, this is the place for you. Located near the center of the El Born district, in a cute little courtyard, Ale & Hop serves up local beers at reasonable prices with personal service.
W Hotel
The drinks are expensive, but for a reason. The view from up here is incredible. Come at sunset for that golden hour lighting, and stay until the sunrise (more on that in my Dance post).
Ayre Hotel Rooftop Bar
The W Hotel may have a great view, but in my opinion, the best view for some day drinking is at the Ayer Hotel. Get your drinks from the modern lobby, and head up to the roof top enjoy a direct, unobstructed view of the world-renowned Sagrada Familia.
El Nacional
Nestled behind some buildings just before the huge Placa de Catalunya, El Nacional has a great harmony between locals and tourists. While it may be a bit on the pricier side, the ambiance is truly fantastic, and the aesthetic is very Instagram worthy. There are several bars in here to chose from, and you will not go wrong with any.
Dry Martini
This place is fancy and expensive, but it gave me this feeling of class that I kind of loved. Dark colors, leather couches, a doorman-all elements of this place that make you feel like you’re royalty.
Le Cyrano
And right across the street, you’ll find the cheapest place for drinks in the city. Le Cyrano uses a simple concept. Pay for the type of alcohol you want, and the rest is free. So you pay for a bottle of the alcohol of your choice, and get all the chaser and mixers for free. Which means you determine how drunk you’ll get. And I promise you, with this concept, it’s quite easy. Plus, they have buckets of free nuts to munch on while you drink you 95% vodka Vodka Soda. Just prepare for some seriously hectic crowds.
Feroz
This was the last bar I went to in the city, and it was absolutely awesome. This is the type of place you see in destinations like Ibiza, Tulum, or St. Tropez, where the waiters and bartenders will suddenly start jumping on tables and dancing with customers. We started out with dinner here (which is also fantastic), and ended up pregaming with the bartenders.
