Dublin

By this point in our trip around Europe, my stomach and I had formed quite the abusive relationship. Nonetheless, we tried to make the most of our time in Dublin, AKA London’s less-impressive, wanna-be little brother.

Where to see books like you’ve probably never seen before: The Old Library at Trinity College

A trip to Trinity College in Dublin (Ireland’s Harvard basically) is very worthwhile, as it is truly one of the most impressive campuses I have ever seen. This library is the highlight of the show, with thousands and thousands of books dating back centuries. It’s symmetry and the sheer quantity make for great photo opportunities as well.

Where to grab a Guinness: The Temple Bar

This is the most famous bar in the city, known for its live music, rowdy crowd and of course extensive collection of beers. Get yourself a Guinness, listen to some music, make friends with locals and tourists (and dogs, in our case) and have yourself a good time. It’s definitely an aggressive scene, but don’t fight it. Embrace the chaos of this way-too-overcrowded bar and the bar will embrace you back. A few pints will probably do the trick.

Where to grab a cocktail when you don’t want a Guinness: Peruke and Periwig

Peruke and Periwig

Recommended to us by my Irish uncle, this place did not disappoint. Its a classy spot in a great location, and the bartenders are super friendly. It also isn’t as in-your-face as the bars on Temple Street so its a nice break. We stopped in and had a couple great drinks along with good conversation with the bartenders. Simple and exactly what we wanted for that hour of the day

Where to go for a stroll in the park: St. Stephen’s

This is Dublin's version of St. James Park in London (which is one of my favorite parks in the world). Feed some geese, have a picnic, check out the numerous statues and enjoy a nice afternoon here.

Where to have a simple brunch and fantastic scones: Queen of Tarts

This small little restaurant is about as cute as it gets, and its scones are no joke. They also have great sandwiches if you aren’t in the mood for any of their decadent sweets.

Unfortunately, that is all I was able to physically do while I was in Dublin, and I particularly was bummed to miss our tour of the Guinness Factory. But honestly, Dublin is just a miniature version of London, and as much as I liked visiting this city, London just has more to offer. But if you want a scaled down version, Dublin is your place!
