Ranking All the Bangkok Hotels I’ve Stayed At:
I was fortunate enough to stay at quite a few hotels in my years in Bangkok, and here’s my ranking of them (this is the updated list):
Mandarin Oriental
It’s not even close. There is no hotel better, plain and simple.
Okura Prestige
If location is your thing, Okura was close to everything and right on top of the metro station. Plus, the infinity edge pool here is one of the city’s best.
SO/ Bangkok
If you want fun and sexy vibes, stay at the SO/. Really well designed, think of this as like an actually nice W hotel (which on that note, the W Bangkok ain’t that nice - its cheaper than the average W for a reason)
MUU Bangkok
Perfect if you want to be in the trendy Thonglor area, great service, design and pool
Marriott Sukhumvit
This is kind of a curveball. The Marriott is a total business hotel, BUT, its got a great rooftop bar (Octave), solid gym and pool area, and fantastic bathroom/shower situations in their rooms. Plus, the location is solid, right on Sukhumvit and near the hip Thonglor area.
Riva Arun
Now if you are coming to Bangkok for the history and temples and nothing else, stay here. The location is ideal for Old Town, and views over Wat Arun are unmatched. PLus, the rooftop restaurant is great. Just be prepared for tiny (albeit intelligently designed) rooms, and no amenities at all.
Anantara Siam
I was excited to stay at this iconic Bangkok hotel, but it just didn’t quite live up to expectations. I mean listen, if you are a 75 year old reading my blog and you can’t afford the Mandarin Oriental (shots not meant to be fired), then this hotel is for you.
Ad Lib
Last but CERTAINLY not least, is Ad Lib. Its a very cool little hotel and ideal if you are looking for a good balance of value and quality. Its got all the amenities you need, and a generally fun and younger vibe, plus the location isn’t bad, as they provide a shuttle to the station.
