United 787-10 Transcontinental Premium Plus

When it comes to your bang for your buck, this is an option that only an expert like me could figure out. Just kidding. But not really.

It isn’t first class, but its definitely not Economy Plus either. this is the newest cabin United has to offer, and you can currently only find it on the 787-10 between LA and NYC. There is no lounge access, and generally the perks of flying Premium Plus are minimal, but the truth is that it is an absolute snag when it comes to bang for your buck.

Seat: 38 inches of pitch and 19 inches wide equates to basically your standard first class seat dimensions, just slightly narrower. But the legroom is fantastic, recline is solid, and there is a surprising amount of storage space with 2 back-seat pockets and a compartment in the immovable armrest. The TV is also huge and high quality. This was also the first time I have used a coat hanger on a flight. Not sure why that’s important or relevant, but now you know. Also also, the cabin for Premium Plus section is tiny (only 3 rows), and has a nice feel to it. And this being a modern 787 means great mood lighting, huge windows and a spacious cabin.

Entertainment: As I said, the TV is huge, and the selection was fantastic. Watched Spiderman on this flight and the experience really was not compromised very much at all.

Service: Like I said, this seat on a domestic flight is about bang for your buck. Flight attendants treated you as the same as an economy passenger, for all intents and purposes. But we did get better blankets and pillows.

Food: I had chicken and wine (which was all complimentary, I should mention) and it was solid. Its definitely a step above economy class meals but definitely not at the level of a first class meal. I was honestly just surprised and pleased to be fed on this flight.
