South of France: Winter
Everyone visits the Côte d’Azur in the summer, and for good reason. Its stunning. But, like I said, everyone is there. So like, it sucks. Getting the chance to visit my mother in the winter, on the other hand, opened my eyes to a different side of this beautiful part of the world, and I absolutely loved it. For more in-depth stuff, check out the summer blog.
Spend a day in Eze
This beautiful seaside town is perched waaaaaaay up on a cliff, commanding insane views over this iconic coastline. The city itself is beyond cute, with tiny alleys, incredible botanical gardens at the highest point, and plenty of cute eateries around (highly highly recommend a meal at the Chateau Eze).
Head to Monte Carlo
Further down past Eze is Monte Carlo, famous for its glitz and glamour, and rightfully so. Check out the casino (if you want to play, you gotta be dressed to the nines!), roam around the harbor and marvel at the yachts, and of course, have dinner at Buddha Bar. Its not a crazy party in winter (check out the summer version blog post for thoughts on that), but the food and vibes are still fantastic.
Nice itself is stunning during the winter, as there are significantly less tourists. So the famous promenade, old town, and surrounding cities are an absolute joy. You’ll have to bring a few sweaters and layer up, sure, but its definitely still worth visiting. Plus, there’s some great winter skiing just an hour or two away from Nice, so I would definitely consider combining the two (rather than flying into a much more expensive Geneva or Zurich). Anyhow, that is all for now!
